The last 5% takes 95% of your time

I've written books.  I have created software. I have built furniture.  I have created DVD's.  In every one of these endeavors, I have underestimated the time it takes to finish up.  Every one.

The DVD is done.  Because it is a tutorial DVD, it contains lots of information -- 1 hour and 34 minutes' worth.  Because it contains a lot of information, it needs structured menus, because you don't want to have to watch the whole thing to find the part you're looking for.  (You can do that, but you probably won't do it more than once. After that, the DVD is reference material, and you want to go to the information you want when you need it.) Structured menus require lots of detailed engineering and testing.

I'm waiting for a retail-ready copy to come from the duplicator's, so I can test it again.  But we're hoping to have it on sale on our site by the weekend.

Meanwhile, I'm already moving on to new material for FlipInFocus, the website.  At this moment, I'm writing this week's tip about creating that 'Charles Schwab' effect -- you know, where everyone is looking like cartoon characters, talking about their investment portfolios?  Those of you who are members know how to edit your Flip videos with Windows Movie Maker, and a similar effect is available there.  But I also found a free plug-in that works with a whole bunch of other video editors, both on Windows and on the Mac.

And I have great plans for some new how-to videos and articles, coming soon.  This is fun.
